An in-depth study on the new educational needs of mothers with children placed in communities and/or who rely on reception centres. The objective is to update and train new skills of community educators to be transferred to host mothers starting from the needs, desires and expectations of the mothers themselves. This output serves to give voice to the mothers, to make them protagonists of their journey and rebirth. The recommendations give voice to the mothers who must be listened to not only by all the organisations dealing with violence, but also by policy makers so that programmes aimed at fortifying women and their bond with their children affected by trauma are institutionalised within communities. We have therefore produced a publication that gathers together what has been achieved in the previous IOs by outlining a functional pathway that helps educators and staff of centres for women victims of violence to better support and help these women to recover their bond with their children and to achieve greater personal autonomy that can lead them to an independent life.
These Recommendations respond to the following aims
– outline a shared vision of the area of intervention to accompany vulnerable parenting, identifying transversal objectives and actions that enable these objectives to be achieved;
– provide common guidelines with respect to interventions aimed at families living in vulnerable situations primarily at local level;
– improve the organisation and operation of accompaniment pathways, defining national and local governance, which is in itself complex and needs to take into account all the actors and actions that contribute to the care and protection of vulnerable persons, women and children, and to improve knowledge about the activity;
– facilitate services in operating in a compliant manner;
– provide local authorities and services with an overall picture of the indications coming from the most recent Italian and international scientific research and from the knowledge produced through innovative national experiences;
– initiate a renewal of inter-professional and inter-institutional practices through the construction of new balances and concrete forms of responsibility sharing between promotion, prevention, administrative protection and judicial protection of women and children.
